NOVA Chemicals’ STYROSUN® resins exclusively specified by RSL Inc. for productio

Pittsburgh, PA - NOVA Chemicals announced today that RSL Inc. and its supplier, Champion Injection Molding, specified STYROSUN weatherable styrenic polymers for the production of their entire doorlight frame line.

“STYROSUN is an ideal material for applications such as RSL/Champion doorlights because it is easily painted and stained, provides the required heat and impact properties, and is cost- effective,” said Holly Wilson, Market Director for Durables, NOVA Chemicals.

Compared to acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA), STYROSUN resins’ processing advantages add value while delivering UV stability, heat resistance and toughness that is required for doorlight applications.

“STYROSUN is a highly-effective alternative compared to filled polypropylene,” said Ron Lewkowitz, President of RSL Inc., a manufacturer of clear and decorative doorlights, sidelights and transoms for residential entryways. “STYROSUN does not contain filler and, therefore, improves processability and eliminates wear on our equipment. In addition, the performance properties of STYROSUN provide our customers with maintenance-free performance for their doorlight frames, backed by RSL’s lifetime warranty.”


In other applications, such as outdoor signage, lawn irrigation systems and truck air deflectors, STYROSUN outperforms UV-stabilized high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), displaying significantly lower yellowing and improved property retention when exposed to outdoor environments.

STYROSUN achieves its weather-resistant properties by combining proprietary UV-stabilization technology with an inherently UV-stable impact modifier. It is easily processed on extrusion and injection molding equipment, requires no drying and is recyclable under SPI code #6. STYROSUN is currently manufactured at NOVA Chemicals’ Breda, the Netherlands, facility.
